A landing page: what it is, when it works and when it does not
What a landing page is, how it differs from a website, which blocks make it work and when a one-pager brings leads — and when it cannot.
A landing page is a page with one job: move a person to one action. Leave a request, book a slot, buy, download. Everything on the page serves that action rather than telling the whole story of the company.
Hence the first mistake: people call any one-page site a landing page. But if it lists five different services, an “about us” block, news and three forms, it is not a landing page — it is a small website. And it works by different rules.
How a landing page differs from a website
| Criterion | Landing page | Website |
|---|---|---|
| Goal | One action | Explain, sell and support several scenarios |
| Structure | One page, one offer | Sections for different queries and stages |
| Traffic | Ads, email, events | Search, direct visits, returning users |
| SEO | Barely works | The main organic traffic channel |
| Lifespan | A campaign or a hypothesis test | Years, with content updates |
| Price | Lower due to scope | Higher: structure, content, maintenance |
What a working landing page is made of
- One clear offer: what you offer, to whom and which problem you solve.
- Proof: case studies, numbers, reviews, documents — not “we are the best”.
- Answers to objections: price, timing, warranty, what happens after the request.
- A clear action: a button and a form in sight, without ten fields.
- A price or a range: people should understand the order of magnitude before calling.
- Trust: company details, a privacy policy, real contact information.
- Speed and mobile: a slow page loses leads.
When a landing page makes sense
- You promote one service or product and want to focus the traffic.
- You run ads and need a page for a specific query and audience.
- You host an event, webinar or time-limited promotion.
- You test demand before investing in a large website.
- You work locally and have one or two main enquiry scenarios.
When it will not work
- You have many products or services, and people need to compare and choose.
- Visitors arrive from search with different questions — one page is not enough.
- The deal is complex and long: you need cases, documents and several trust layers.
- Work continues in a personal account after the request — then you need a site or platform.
- You want organic traffic: a landing page barely collects search queries.
- There is no traffic and no ad budget — the page alone will not bring leads.
Why “the landing page brought no leads”
The cause is usually not the design. First check the traffic: did the right people arrive? Then the offer: is it clear what is being sold and what it costs? Then the form: is it too long, and does the request reach a manager? Only then look at the visuals. A beautiful page with bad traffic does not work; a simple one with a precise offer does.
Timing and cost
A simple landing page on a ready structure takes a few days. Custom design, copy and photography add time. The price depends on the number of blocks, how ready the materials are and which integrations are needed: forms, CRM, payments, analytics. You can see a rough range in the calculator and get an exact quote after we review the task.
